Torquay and surfs up!

Thanks to all for your birthday wishes - had a great day and tasty mud cake for the celebrations - (not as good as yours Tamra) . We headed to the beach today for some surfing and beach-fun - the waves weren't huge but just about right for someone getting back into the sport - I think it's like riding a bike as it wasn't much getting up on the board again and catching a few waves. Did feel the paddles out though - not as resilient as I used to be. The kids had a great time on the beach and boogie boarding. I found a new use for the boogie board with Piper - she sat on it and I ran over the shallow wet areas - she was flying! Not much different from those tubes pulled behind ski-boats. I managed to get some 'free' time to work on my presentations for Europe and the kids got through their journals with not much ado today - what a change! Jen is well and cooked up a storm this evening in the communal kitchen - nothing like sharing your kitchen with 20 others! This is all taking some getting used to - I think we'll survive though.

  1. Well done on the birthday. I agree with you on Tamra's amazing cakes. Another capricorn hey! I turn the big 30 on Sunday 17th. Swimming weeks start today. I'm hoping we have heaps of instructors and kids, it wont be the same without you guys. Love always Mem & family.
P.S. I remember watching a movie when I was a kid with Doris day and her caravan full of rocks she was collecting on her travels, it was an 'I love Lucy' movie. Just thought of it when reading your comments about your caravan collectables, it made me smile. Have you got your cartoon up in the caravan?

  2. Hi Wade, Jen, Aidan, Cole and Piper
Thanks for the Birthday phone call Wade. It was great that it was also your Birthday when we spoke. A half a world apart changes things. My day was really good with 8 guests for dinner , all curlers except B & B and then off to curl at 9. That went well and everyone in the lounge after the games sang Happy Birthday. Sure get a lot of attention when you turn 70, but it doesn't feel any different. Next day it just seemed to keep on going as my brother Dale and wife Evelyn arrived for a few hours enroute to Hawaii. They had friends with them so your Mom cooked up a terrific Brunch for them and we taught them Wizard before taking them back to the Airport. Also, the phone kept ringing with friends and family calling with good wishes. Even Grandma phoned, and that is pretty rare. After a quiet afternoon we then gathered at the Ukrainian Hall with 10 other couples in our group to celebrate Malanka (the Ukrainain New Years). Tonight Craig, Kailey, and Candace are joining us for another Birthday dinner at The Cannery Restaurant. That will be memorable as it is closing sometime later this year and it is not certain if it will be re-located or not.

Sounds like your surfing gift to yourself went well and that everyone had a good day at the Beach.
The Olympics start a month from today, so Vancouver should be jumping.

We are really enjoying your Blog and while you haven't had many responses from others we know that several others are following your adventures with you, so keep them coming.

Today is a spring like day so we are going to try and do a little biking this afternoon

    Til next time, Good Bye
